Feminismos e industrias culturales | Conversaciones con mujeres de la cultura española

In the midst of the debate on the scope and subjects of feminism, with the ultraconservative backlash and the crisis caused by the pandemic as a backdrop, this book proposes to reflect on the situation of women in the cultural field and on the role of culture in a truly democratic and inclusive society.

Through 29 interviews conducted between January and June 2021, the book gathers the opinions of writers, film producers, actresses, stage directors, comic book artists, curators, cultural managers, singers, journalists, and visual artists representing different sectors and generations of culture in our country. Based on their personal journeys, marked by struggles, fears, and obstacles, but also by achievements, progress, and collaborations, and with very diverse profiles and points of view—from The Zowi a jedet via Esther Garcia, Laura Freixas o Susana blas– These cultural professionals offer their reflections on the place of women and racial and sexual minorities in culture, on discrimination, inequalities and abuses, both historical and present, as well as on recent controversies, such as the #MeToo movement, parity through quotas or transphobia.

Conceived as a form of inquiry that moves from the individual to the collective, these interviews aspire to contribute to the still untold history of women in culture in Spain, while offering paths towards equality and a fairer and more democratic distribution of responsibilities, recognition and work in the world of culture.
