Fotografía 1983-2008

Since the early eighties we have enjoyed writing Mireia Sentís, her art criticism, her books on the New York avant-garde of the seventies and African American culture; her exhibition curating and, of course, her photographs. This catalogue, like the exposure of which it is the fruit and testimony, it aims to show how photography is a necessary constant in her work to seek that hidden dimension that only occurs in works of art.

Mireia Sentís has always considered herself generationally distinct, but her photographic works, which she has exhibited in various shows, possess a period feel that transcends mere form. As she often says, she always pursues an idea, something that not only transcends trends but also makes the presence of time in the image all the more unsettling. Her work responds to existential concerns rather than formal impulses. Mireia Sentís photographs because she wants to reflect: on the body and sex, the landscapes of the environment she visits or inhabits, customs, society, and power. All of this is viewed through an ironic and poetic lens, the only style in which she identifies.
