Word and matter gathers the poetic reading that Jose Angel Valente pronounced in el Círculo de Bellas Artes In 1999, one of the last public events in which he participated before his death, Valente reviewed key milestones in his literary career and delved into the reflective horizon that nourished his poetry.
The volume is completed with an introduction by Amalia Iglesias Serna and an interview that the same author conducted between 1989 and 1990 with the Galician poet, which reveals some of his aesthetic keys: "In the midst of technological languages ​​that refer us to the criteria of performance, efficiency, and use, poetry is once again imbued with enormous importance, with a necessary meaning, because it is the language that continues to provide us with the principles of beauty, truth, and, ultimately, rectitude."
