This volume coordinated by Jordi DoceThis collection of lectures from the course of the same name held at the CBA in 2006 focuses on the analysis of poetic translation through the reflections of poet-translators engaged in rendering key works of contemporary European poetry. These reflections center on the translator's workshop, on the material struggle with words (their imperfections and resistances, their brilliance and ambiguities), but also on the capacity of such works to be embedded in or influence the shaping of our own poetry. The lectures are accompanied by short poetic anthologies that reveal the other side of the coin, the fruit of a practice that is, above all, creation, imaginative and verbal invention.

At this point, it seems difficult to examine the practice of translating poetry without intimately relating it to the energies and aspirations at play in poetic writing. Hence, the title of these pages, which arose somewhat by chance from the manipulation of the two terms in the pair, seems to point, nevertheless, to the genuine nature of their connection: poetry in translation, that is, inserted or contained within a larger space that defines and conditions it. It is suggested, in this way, that poetic writing is nothing more than a variant of a superior task, poetic translation, or, to put it succinctly and emphatically, that writing is always translating.
