2006 marked the centenary of the birth of Samuel Beckett (1906-1989), one of the most important poets, novelists, and playwrights of the last century. Not without a certain reluctance, since nothing was more foreign to the Irish writer than the canonizing logic of homage, the essays that make up this volume aim to pay tribute to him.

Despite the extraordinary monumentalization of his name and face, which became a fetish of modernity, Beckett literally sought to erase himself from the culture industry. This is one of the reasons why Beckett's writings are so elusive to criticism: they always seem to anticipate any theorizing. The authors who contribute to this volume have made a significant theoretical effort to delve into Beckett's work from different analytical perspectives, attempting to open new hermeneutical paths that respect its aesthetic density and do justice to its enormous capacity to provoke reflection.
