Emilio Lledo
Professor and philosopher, Emilio Lledo He was born in Seville in 1927. He studied in Madrid and Heidelberg, where his professors included philosophers such as Löwith and Gadamer. He graduated in philosophy from the University of Madrid in 1952. Between 1964 and 1967, he was Professor of Philosophy at the University of La Laguna, and between 1967 and 1978, at the University of Barcelona. In 1978, he became Professor of the History of Philosophy at the National University of Distance Education (UNED).
Emilio Lledó has focused his philosophical interests on the problem of language. Among his publications are The silence of writing (National Essay Prize in 1992), Philosophy and language (1995) Words from interviews (1997) and In Praise of Unhappiness, (2005). A member of the Royal Spanish Academy of Language since 1994, he received important distinctions throughout his career, including the Alexander von Humboldt Prize, awarded in Bonn in 1991, as well as the XVIII Menéndez Pelayo International Prize, which he obtained in 2004.
