On July 13th, it took place in el Círculo a debate on the cultural programs of the main political parties from a legal-cultural perspective under the title "Culture at the center of the political debate" organized by the Gabeiras Foundation.

Manuela Villa (PSOE), Jaime de los Santos (PP), Joaquín Robles López (VOX) and Getsemaní San Marcos (SUMAR) presented their electoral programs and debated the main urgent issues in the cultural sector that the government resulting from the next elections will have to address.

The cultural sector has precisely identified the problems and difficulties that threaten the sustainability of culture in our country. In this regard, last May the Gabeiras Foundation presented the Catalogue of Urgent Issues in the Cultural Sector at the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum . This open-access document compiles a series of cross-cutting proposals, both national and regional, as well as sector-specific ones. The proposals presented in the catalogue are the result of an in-depth legal analysis of all the problems raised by the sector itself and gathered during a series of working groups that brought together various voices and stakeholders from the cultural sector.

During the debate, Juan Cruz raised with the four political representatives such relevant issues as the cultural mission of the State and its proper care, or the cultural system and its financing, with the aim of understanding the respective positions of each party and putting culture at the center of the political debate.

In addition, some of the most urgent issues included in the catalogue text were addressed, such as the Public Sector Contracts Law and its proper interpretation, the implementation of the recommendations of the Artist Statute , the incorporation of culture and artistic teachings into educational activity in an integral or transversal manner, and the contribution of culture to sustainable development.
