On August 27, 1770, the philosopher was born in Stuttgart. Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, often considered the foremost thinker of modernity. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of this event, el Círculo de Bellas Artes wants to pay tribute to him through a series of initiatives framed within the context of the international seal Hegel Now!.

Between December 16 and 18, together with the Autonomous University of Madrid and the Complutense University of Madrid, we will organize the international congress entitled A stellar friendship: Hegel and Hölderlin 1770-2020Taking advantage of the fact that this year also marks a quarter of a millennium since the birth of the poet who authored Hyperion (and by the way, also Beethoven, to whose figure we have dedicated this year's cycle Beethoven todayOther initiatives undertaken this year at the CBA to pay tribute to the Swabian thinker have included the publication of a book on Logic and Constitution in the Hegelian system, a blog post to consider the possibility of an ecological use of Hegel, as well as the presentation, in a virtual edition of the Monday to Círculo, of novel discoveries about the true causes of the philosopher's death.

If in 1907 Benedetto Croce wrote the famous essay entitled What is alive and what is dead in Hegel's philosophyToday, 250 years after his birth, the enduring relevance and vitality of Hegelian thought are undeniable in numerous political, logical-metaphysical, legal, and aesthetic debates. Since Hegel himself defined his system as a “circle of circles,” no institution is better suited than el Círculo to remember his figure, his thought and his crucial influence on contemporary philosophy.
