Creative documentary filmmaking: a true art

Documentary film is founded on the discovery of the world and humankind. Through testimonies, stories, and situations, it reveals the diversity of reality, creating autonomous cinematic narratives with their own rules of storytelling and dramatic structures.

This workshop comprises theoretical and practical classes, taught alternately from the first day: the theoretical part offers an introduction to the documentary gaze. Through the viewing of several emblematic films of the genre, participants will discover the evolution of documentary cinema within the context of the challenges and aesthetics specific to the filmmakers, their countries, and their era.

Regarding the practical classes, the objective is for participants to discover their own style. To this end, they will be asked to develop a personal portrait project. This will be an initial exploration, a process of reflection on aspects such as subject matter, subject, time period, and style.

Total duration of the workshop: 28 hours
