This watercolor workshop offers an experimental and free-flowing approach to watercolor techniques. Through methods such as splashing, pouring, and blowing, participants explore the diverse effects achievable with watercolor and its various applications. The workshop encompasses combined techniques, including wet, semi-wet, and dry overlays, and the use of different materials to enrich the experience. The relationships between watercolor and other modern and contemporary techniques are also investigated. Participants will develop their expressive abilities through practical exercises and personal projects, with the opportunity to interact and learn in a collaborative environment.

Necessary materials:

Participants in the workshop should bring the following materials:

• 2 blocks of watercolor paper 300 gr./cm, 33X24 cm or similar.
• 1 tube of watercolor of each color: lemon yellow, cerulean blue, magenta red (quinacridone, alizarin crimson) and black, alternatives: carmine, burnt sienna, ochre, ultramarine blue or Prussian blue.
• Medium "Fudé" (Japanese brush) or a number 18 round brush, and medium "Hake".
• Cotton cloth (10x20cm)
• 1 plastic or ceramic palette
• 1 bamboo skewer (I'll bring one)
• Small sponge (you can cut a normal sponge into 4 parts)
• 40x50 board
• 1 roll of masking tape
• 2 containers for water can be 200 ml glasses

Alternative materials:

Kitchen plastic wrap or cellophane, bubble wrap, toothbrush, candle or wax, fine and coarse salt, kitchen paper, used credit card, soap, and all that disposable material that stimulates your creativity.

Guillermo von Plocki

Born in 1958 in Córdoba, Argentina, he is an Argentine-German artist with a distinguished background in illustration, graphic design, and printmaking. He moved to Munich in 1981 and pursued a career in advertising and design. In 1997, he relocated to Brazil, where he dedicated his life to art, holding international exhibitions and winning awards such as first place at the 2006 Salón Paulista de Arte Contemporáneo. Since 2002, he has taught watercolor, color theory, and drawing, and since 2019, he has resided in Madrid.

Program

Media and materials: Participants are introduced to the different materials and their application.

Laboratory: The use of the brush and its variety is explored, seeking new forms of expression.

Expression: Through exercises, individual development and collective interaction are encouraged.

Final considerations: The results are presented and discussed to further explore the practice.

Total length: 20 hours spread over 10 sessions.
