The ukulele is a small, affordable, and surprisingly versatile instrument. Its ease of learning makes it an ideal entry point into the world of music, allowing you to play songs from the very first sessions and enjoy the experience of making music in a group.

Although today it is primarily associated with Hawaii, the ukulele originated from Portuguese instruments such as the cavaquinho and the rajão, introduced to the archipelago in the late 19th century. Its warm sound, simplicity, and the international popularity of artists like Israel Kamakawiwoʻole have contributed to making it one of the most popular instruments for beginners.

This workshop offers a practical and playful approach to the ukulele, where play, listening, and participation are the main learning tools. Through songs, rhythmic exercises, and group activities, participants will discover basic chords, musical accompaniment, and the expressive possibilities of the ukulele, while simultaneously developing coordination, a sense of rhythm, and confidence.

The activities will be adapted to each participant's level, so no prior experience is necessary. Whether you're approaching the instrument for the first time or you already know some chords, you'll find new resources to continue learning and enjoying music.

Beyond technique, the workshop understands music as a shared experience: an opportunity to listen, create, play with other people and discover the pleasure of learning in community.

Taught by

Belén de Benito is a musician, performer, and teacher with extensive experience in music education. She has worked for over three decades in schools, municipal schools, and conservatories, including Kensington School in Pozuelo, the Popular School of Music and Dance in Madrid, and the Municipal School of Music in La Granja de San Ildefonso. She currently directs a family choir and various musical projects in Fresnedillas de la Oliva.

As a performer, he is part of various musical groups and has collaborated with artists such as Antonio Vega and Luis Eduardo Aute, in addition to participating in film and television recordings and composing music for audiovisual projects.

Who may be interested

This workshop is for children aged 7 and up who want to learn to play the ukulele or continue exploring its musical possibilities. No prior experience is necessary.
