In 1983, Ricardo Iniesta founded Atalaya Teatro Experimental Andaluz (Andalusian Experimental Theatre) with the aim of establishing a permanent theatre research team. The founding of the TNT International Research Centre in 1994 led to the formation of a new Atalaya team, which has been constantly growing and evolving thanks to the prestigious international faculty who have come to the centre. In 2003, Atalaya and TNT joined the European Union's European Theatre Laboratories program as Cultural Innovators. In 2008, Atalaya celebrated its 25th anniversary.
