Chema Madoz He received the National Photography Prize in 2000. In his work, always in a solemn black and white, imaginative games, perspectives and textures, and objects, constructed with exquisite simplicity, acquire importance.

Born in Madrid in 1958, he studied Art History at the Complutense University, a degree he combined with photography studies at the Center for Image Teaching.

The Royal Photographic Society of his hometown hosted the author's first solo exhibition in 1985 and, three years later, the Minerva Galleryel Círculo de Bellas Artes He inaugurated his photography program with a selection of his work. In 1991, he participated in the exhibition at the Reina Sofía National Art Centre Museum. Four Directions: Contemporary Spanish Photography, which then travels through several countries.

The artist's first monograph was published by Art-Plus Publishing in 1995 under the title Chema Madoz (1985 – 1995)In 1998, Editorial Mestizo published a volume dedicated to the Madrid photographer: Mixed – Chema Madoz.

In 1999 he starred in a solo exhibition at the Galician Center for Contemporary Art and the Reina Sofía Museum dedicated the first retrospective to a living Spanish photographer to him.

His career has been recognized with awards such as the Kodak Spain Award (1991), the Higasikawa Overseas Photographer Award from the Higasikawa PhotoFestival (Japan, 2000) and the PhotoEspaña Award (2000).
