Roni Horn

Roni Horn (New York, 1955) holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. In addition to receiving the CalArts/Alpert Award, she has also been awarded numerous grants, including one from the Guggenheim Museum. Horn's work encompasses diverse genres such as sculpture, photography, drawing, essays, and artist's books. Her work has been associated with the minimalist movement represented in the 1960s by artists such as Donald Judd and Sol LeWitt. However, hers is a warmer minimalism. Over time, photography has become the dominant medium in her work. Her series on Iceland, in which she captures modulations of light and mood, are well-known in this medium. She has had solo exhibitions at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, and the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York, among others. She has also participated in Documenta in Kassel (1992) and the Venice Biennale (1997).
