François Truffaut: The Wild Child
(Le petit sauvage) François Truffaut, France, 1970, 1h 23min, Int.: François Truffaut, Jean-Pierre Cargol, François Seigner [DCP]
The screening will feature a presentation by Miguel Álvarez-Fernández, sound artist, composer, musicologist, curator of sound art projects, essayist, film director and music producer, specialist in the use of the voice in different aesthetic contexts, having specifically studied the role that the off commentary plays in the film in question.
Based on true events, it tells the story of a boy who grows up without any contact with civilization. With this film, Truffaut proposes the replacement of Natural Man, as defended in Rousseau's theories, with Moral Man. The writings of the physician and educator Jean Itard on the case are used by the French director to construct the film.
