Mohamed Sleiman Labat , Western Sahara / Finland, 2023, 57 min, VOSE [DCP]

DESERT PHOSfate is an experimental documentary by Sahrawi artist Mohamed Sleiman Labat. It traces the history of phosphate, exploring narratives that overlap with particles of sand, plants, people, and displaced minerals. The film explores ways of telling realities, metaphors, and poetics in the desert. It highlights the connections between ecological justice, colonial practices, environmental violence, the traces of anthropocentric mineral extraction, and the loss of Indigenous ways of knowing and telling stories about the world.
