Based on Toyoshima Yoshio's novel, which compiled notes written by Kumano Ryuji, the head of a juvenile detention center, Introspection Tower is a film rarely produced by a studio in its time, addressing a social issue through a documentary-style approach. In this unique film, Shimizu speaks, with his love for childhood and his characteristic optimism, about a school where over 200 children with special needs live in several houses built on a sprawling campus. Each child is assigned a teacher and a caregiver, known as "Mom" and "Dad," with whom the school seeks to integrate them into a family environment, providing them with everything from basic education to simple vocational training.
