About the film
Screening LAV is the ongoing series of experimental film screenings, produced by LAV (www.master-lav.com) and the Cine Estudio del Círculo de Bellas ArtesOnce a month, the LAV students program a film screening that is shown in its original photochemical format. "Self-Portrait of a Device" presents a small panorama of artists who, using themselves as their primary subject, explore the mechanisms of the representational device. This includes unorthodox uses of stop motion, investigations into perception, the specificities of the format, and the use of functions not normally intended for filmmaking. All these procedures expand the notions and possibilities of the filmic self-portrait. At times, the line between the one being filmed, the artist, and the camera becomes very blurred.
