The New Peace Agenda, our commitment to the world

Within the framework of Social Action, el Círculo de Bellas Artes hosts the presentation of the 'New Peace AgendaOur commitment to the world. In a context of the decline of democratic multilateralism and the serious deterioration of the international legal framework, on a planet with the highest number of armed conflicts since the Second World War, and with a resounding increase in tensions between major powers, it is essential to reinforce the commitment to peace and international security, to deepen our commitment to peace in the world.

Aware of this situation, the United Nations has launched a series of initiatives that chart the course for the future. Through the Pact for the Future and the New Peace Agenda , it urges States to develop National Action Plans for building and sustaining peace, in dialogue with national actors and civil society.

The Coordinator of Development Organizations is organizing this event, "The New Peace Agenda: Our Commitment to the World," to create a space for dialogue among different stakeholders regarding the New Peace Agenda. The first panel will feature internationally recognized experiences that can serve as inspiration for the national context, with speakers such as Youssef Mahmoud, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and member of the UN Peacebuilding Commission, and Sanam Naraghi, UN expert advisor and driving force behind the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

In a second phase, a dialogue will be held with representatives from different ministries who, from their respective areas of work, can exchange proposals and key factors in the promotion of these processes and, in particular, recommendations to move towards a future National Strategy for Building and Sustaining Peace.

The organization of this event has the support of the organizations Movement for Peace and Novact, as well as the funding of the Catalan Agency for Development Cooperation, the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030.
