In Honor of the Moon
Gerard O'Donnell with The Balor Piano Trio
Irish composer and pianist Gerard O'Donnell arrives at Círculo de Bellas Artes to present In Honor of the MoonA highly acclaimed cycle of nine nocturnes conceived as a single musical journey under the ever-changing moonlight and shaped by its emotional tides. Ancient, constant, and ever-changing, the moon acts here as witness and companion, guiding a journey through memory, nature, identity, mystery, and transformation.
On this occasion, O'Donnell will be accompanied by The Balor Piano Trio, comprised of Pavle Marinković (violin) and Marta Tobar (cello). Together they bring to life a score that combines the precision of classical tradition with contemporary textures and echoes of Irish folklore, constructing a sonic universe of great evocative power.
The program unfolds from the ceremonial invocation of In Honor of the Moon (Part I) until closing time In Honor of the Moon (Part III)...traversing landscapes where the Irish tradition of honoring the dead, the fragile beauty of the moment before dawn, the contemplation of water as a mirror of human experience, Gaelic legends populated by spirits and fairies, or the almost ritualistic intensity of... all coexist Solstice, a work that merges pagan fervor with classical form.
More than a succession of independent pieces, In Honor of the Moon It constitutes a unified musical experience in which each nocturne adds a new emotional nuance to the same journey. At the end of the journey, the moon remains unchanged, but the one who contemplates it is no longer the same.
This concert is part of the programming Casa Europa on the occasion of the start of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which Ireland will hold between July and December 2026.
