Common Vibrations
El Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid (CBA) will be present at the IV London Design Biennale (London Design Biennale 2023), which will take place in Somerset House From June 1st to 25th, as the organization recently announced.
Under the motto “The Global Game: Remapping Collaborations”, the Biennial continues its original mission to show that the Design can improve the world we live inThe projects presented serve this objective by offering solutions to some of the global problems facing humanity today, with new forms of international cooperation and participation through design.
Among the first confirmed participants for this edition is our country with the project presented jointly with Peru, 'Common Vibrations', an audiovisual installation that showcases the cultural heritage shared by these two countries through a percussion instrument, the cajón.
The installation will feature three interconnected elements: the stage where the cajóns are presented; an audiovisual performance by two percussionists, one located in Peru and the other in Spain; and a map explaining the ethnographic link between the instrument and the territory. Participants are invited to join in the rhythm through the sound emanating from within the instruments, creating a unique percussive dialogue.
'Common Vibrations' is a collaborative project involving more than 50 students from three art, architecture and design schools: SUR, the CBA School of Arts and Artistic Professions (Madrid) – where the UC3M Master's program in continuing education in arts and artistic professions is offered – the Toledo School of Architecture of the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and the Department of Architecture of the Catholic University of Santa María in Arequipa (Peru). The installation, which has the support of Acción Cultural Española (AC/E), the Embassies of Spain and Peru in the United Kingdom, as well as the company Figueras Seating and the María Pagés Choreographic Center, will be exhibited in el Círculo de Bellas Artes de Madrid, as part of the tour that will take place after the Biennial.
