Don Quixote | Matta's Homage to Don Quixote
Two series of lithographs, "Don Qui" (1985) and "Qui d'Eux" (1990), comprise the exhibition by Chilean painter Roberto Matta . The artist, considered one of the leading members of the Surrealist movement, offers a fantastical and creative interpretation of the adventures of Don Quixote of La Mancha.
Trained as an architect, Matta is a multifaceted artist, renowned as a painter but also a sculptor, ceramist, illustrator, and writer. Among his numerous exhibitions and works worldwide, highlights include the International Surrealist Exhibition in Paris (1947) and retrospectives in New York (1955), Stockholm (1959), Berlin (1970), and Paris (1985); "Chile Vive" at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid (1986), for which he painted "Munda y Desnuda: la libertad" (now at the MNCARS); and the retrospective at the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid (1992).
