To reimagine This exhibition presents thirteen artists who reflect on the photographic medium at a time of transformation, exploring new ways to reimagine the photographic image. Through creative experimentation with the material practice of photography, these artists seek to question, explore, or engage in dialogue with diverse themes such as identity, authority, and territory, thus continuing the re/conceptualization of forms of representation in our contemporary culture.

The exhibition introduces each artist's practice through a selection of photographs and invites the viewer to a closer look at their methods, processes and artistic research, giving rise to a cosmology of images that includes photo-sculptures, installations, innovative series and photography as an aesthetic object.

Throughout the exhibition, the artists focus on this year's PHotoESPAÑA themes: photographic creativity, experimentation, and exploring the limits of the image. Some respond to the construction and deconstruction of identity and nation through territorial narratives, reflecting on the human condition and its immediate sociopolitical environment, or addressing the psychological relationship between public space and a constructed reality, as is the case with Rob Hornstra (b. 1975, Borne, Netherlands), Aleix Plademunt (b. 1980, Girona, Spain), Txema Salvans (b. 1971, Barcelona, ​​Spain), and Anoek Steketee (b. 1974, Hoorn, Netherlands). Others analyze the relationship of photography with typologies and visual systems, such as the cataloging of portraits of citizens or the capture of the morphology of its inhabitants in an era of constant movement, as well as the inventorying of industrial ruins that represent the passage of time and the creation of networks of lexicons that index multiple fragments of history, as in the works of Javier Arboledas (b. 1974, Granada, Spain), Jon Gorospe (b. 1986, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain), or Eduardo Nave (b. 1976, Valencia, Spain).

In other cases, some artists rematerialize the photographic medium, expanding its materiality through a multiplicity of artistic processes, exploring the notion of an ephemeral image in constant transformation. This allows for exercises in perception, chance, metaphor, and time, as seen in the works of Juan Couder (b. 1998, Madrid, Spain) and Rafael Trapiello (b. 1980, Madrid, Spain). Others develop an anthropology of images based on historical documents obtained from diverse sources, reactivating the past to provide readings for the present and build a legacy for the future, thus exploring the complexities of our relationship with the world, as in the works of Lurdes Basolí (b. 1981, Granollers, Spain), Ira Lombardia (b. 1977, Asturias, Spain), and the duo formed by Arguiñe Escandón (b. 1979, Bilbao, Spain) and Yann Gross (b. 1981, Vevey, Switzerland).

To reimagine It presents new ways of seeing through the imagination of this select group of extraordinary artists, who are true visionaries. Representing multiple narratives and temporalities, the photographs of these contemporary artists configure a shared visual experience that viscerally links the photographer and the viewer through the polymorphous manifestations of photography's unique qualities, thus offering both established and reinvented ways of appreciating this medium with a long tradition.

This project also reflects the PHotoESPAÑA PRO Talent on Board program, bringing together selected artists in its first edition in 2026. The exhibition is also part of the guest country section, dedicated in this edition to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, establishing a dialogue between Spanish and Dutch creators within a framework of international exchange.
