The Night of Ideas

For this eighth edition of The Night of Ideas, the French Institute of Spain, el Círculo de Bellas Artes and the Casa de Velázquez will bring together French and Spanish thinkers, writers and artists to reflect on the notion of sustainability in an uncertain world and times.

In a context of widespread anxiety linked to the ecological and geopolitical crisis in Eastern Europe, and the fear of an economic crisis, Madrid's Night of Ideas is conceived as a moment of intellectual respite. The speakers will focus their reflections on possible collective solutions where art and thought will unite for a more resilient society.

The Night of Ideas in Madrid is an invitation to question our consumption habits, our methods of using natural resources and production, but also the major challenges of demographic change, at a time when the planet has surpassed the symbolic milestone of 8 billion human beings. Furthermore, it is also an open door to debates about the culture of performance in the fields of art, the humanities, and life in general.

Ecosophy? EcoArt? Sustainable economy? Demiurgic force?

Discover these concepts that influence and shape contemporary European thought.

We will have the participation of French Ambassador to Spain Jean-Michel Casa, intellectuals and artists from diverse backgrounds, such as the philosophers Barbara Stiegler, Valerio Rocco y Luis Arenas Llopis, the Hellenistic historian Christophe Pébarthe, the art critic Paul Ardenne, the art historian and journalist Peio H. Riaño, the economist Valerie Guillard, the pianist Isabel Pérez Dobarrothe humanist journalist Nicolas Truong, the political scientist specializing in social and feminist theory Mariam M. Bascuñánthe political scientist Pablo Simon and the entrepreneur Elena Herrero-Beaumont, the mathematician and philosopher Isabelle Le Galo Flores, the author Irene Rubiera, the artists in residence at the Casa de Velázquez Guillaume Lillo, Antoine Nessi, Assia Piqueras y Laurent Proux, the researchers from the Casa de Velázquez Georgina Gabriela Gluzan, and Yassir Mechelloukh y Luca Pitteloud and the researchers from the Autonomous University of Madrid Jorge Tomás García y José María Zamora Calvo among others.
