Specters of Transition

What if the real transformation that shaped Spanish society wasn't the transition triggered by Franco's death, but the one that began in the late 50s with the spread of television, tourism, and the American way of life?

In this multi-voiced dialogue, based on the essay Specters of the Transition, the shift from the culture of resistance during the Franco regime to the dazzling "showcase culture"—the Expo, the Olympics, the Quincentenary, and other grand celebrations—that paved the way for the subsequent conservative revolution was analyzed. To this end, the legacy of Sara Montiel, Maruja Mallo, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, Pilar Miró, and television programs like Ochéntame otra vez (Tell Me About the Eighties Again) was discussed.
